Severe mental illnesses known as psychotic disorders result in aberrant thoughts and perceptions. Psychotic patients become disconnected from reality. Delusions and hallucinations are two of the primary symptoms. Delusions are erroneous beliefs, such as the conviction that someone is attempting to harm you or that your television is communicating with you covertly. False perceptions like hearing, seeing, or sensing something that isn't there are known as hallucinations. One example of a psychotic condition is schizophrenia. Psychotic symptoms can also be present in those who have bipolar disorder. Alcohol and some medications, brain tumours, brain infections, and stroke are some other conditions that might result in psychosis. Treatment depends on the cause of the psychosis. It might involve drugs to control symptoms and talk therapy. Hospitalization is an option for serious cases where a person might be dangerous to himself or others.
